Nikolai's Old Room at the Arms, Tuesday Night

Nikolai hadn't really been planning on staying in Los Angeles when he'd left the island for Thanksgiving, but then he had. Which meant, inevitably, that a heaping crapload of his stuff had been left behind... not the least of which being his bike.

Aaand all of his DVDs. And half of his heroing equipment. His spare helmet. A few books. His weights...

So, this was his last pit-stop on the island, and he'd enlisted Allie's help. After all, even if he'd been out taking hits of energy from criminals out in Balitmore (he hadn't), there wasn't much of a chance that he'd be able to pack up and carry everything back home through a portal on his own.

"I'm thinking," he said thoughtfully, "that maybe I just leave the movies behind. I have most of these back in L.A. too."

Allie eyed the pile of DVDs as she considered her own tiny collection. "I might know someone who'd be willing to take them off your hands," she offered.

"Hopefully that someone likes Westerns," Nick laughed, shooting her an easy grin. "Same goes for music and whatever books I've got sitting around, for that matter. The less of this crap that I have to haul back across the country, the better."

"Oh come on, I thought that's why you wanted me here. To do all the heavy lifting," Allie teased.

"Either that, or so I can unload all of my fun junk on you," Nick chuckled. "Or maybe I just want somebody to ride with when I take my bike for a spin in L.A. for the first time. That said, I do have my weight set..."

They wouldn't be lacking in heavy things to haul, even without the books and movies and CDs!

"You can keep the weight set," she said with a laugh. "But I'll take the fun stuff. And the ride. I still can't decide if I'm going to miss you or the bike more."

"If it's the bike, I'll understand," Nick decided, reaching for a bag and starting to shove his DVDs in there as he talked. "I mean, I was without it for a few weeks there, and, no shit, Allie, doing patrols without it is fucking brutal."

Especially before he'd taken a few people down with his powers. Ugh.

"But see, that's just a good reason to come visit from time to time. Crime in Los Angeles is way more fun to take down than it is in Baltimore. The South Seventeens are way more our speed. Even if a few of them aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the shed."

"You had to walk? The horror. It must have been terrible." Allie tried to sound sympathetic. It mostly came out sounding amused.

"I'll visit. Someone has to make sure you're behaving."

"Hey, now. Let's not get too carried away, there. I'm at my best when I'm misbehaving, you know." Nick shoved a few more movies into the bag, and then grabbed for another one. "And I'd like to think of it as more like a slow, deliberate, dangerous prowl."

Sure, Nikolai.

"Or, at the very least, an enthusiastic evening power-walk. It is Hollywood."

"With your leather duster swirling fashionably behind you?" She might not have seen many movies, but she was rapidly learning the tropes.

"I've had a few weeks to perfect that," Nick intoned, winking. "Between the duster and the tight jeans, I'd probably turn a hell of a lot more heads if I didn't do my patrols in the dead of the frigging night. Mostly in unlit neighborhoods."

Allie could both picture, and appreciate it. She was a vampire. It didn't mean she was dead. "I guess you just have to figure out your priorities. Are you a crime fighter or are you an undiscovered model looking for your big break?"

"By day, I'm a talent agent," Nick pointed out. "If I'm undiscovered, it's because I haven't bothered to book myself. So I guess I'm going to have to go with the crime fighter thing, at least until I decide that I'd much rather smear vaseline on my teeth, start waxing everything from my chin down, and glue my underwear to my ass for a living. For some reason, I'm not in any hurry to start with that. Not right now, anyway."

It would be a difficult career to get into anyway, without accidentally killing the audience.

The picture he painted had Allie squirming uncomfortably. "I can't understand why. It sounds like so much fun."

"Pays better," Nick noted, still smirking. "Not super great for shit like anonymity, though. Those high-profile millionaire superheroes only really work out in comic books anyway."

"And you aren't nearly angsty enough to pull it off," she pointed out.

Oh, give him time, Allie. Give him time.

"Should I work on that?" he teased. "I could set aside a few hours a day to practice my brooding. Trick is making it look pretty, I think. Like how they do it in all the movies."

He gave his movie pile a little nod, shoving the last of the DVDs into a bag and nudging them her way.

"Well I'll watch these," Allis said as she took the bag. "And then call you with suggestions."

"Pay extra close attention to the eyes," Nick joked. "I have trouble getting the eyes right."

For some reason.

He took another look around, dusted off his hands, and pulled himself to his feet.

"I think that's most of it. Furniture's not mine, it belongs to the hotel, so it's really just down to my clothes, and whatever else I have sitting around. Easy."

"Yeah, easy." Which came out a little more melancholy then Allie intended. She tried to hide it by forcing a grin. "I'm glad the furniture stays. I may have the strength but I still don't feel like hauling your bed down all the stairs on the island."

Nick gave her a bit of a wry smile. Yeah, he didn't miss that melancholy, there.

"We'll just limit it to my weights, then. And hell, we can make multiple trips out of it, if you don't mind stashing my things somewhere for me. I just can't leave them here. Mary needs this room back sooner or later."

"There's room at my place," she assured him. "It's not like I have to worry about messing up my decorating scheme."

"Which is..." Nick pursed his lips a little, thinking. "Books? Books is a decorating scheme, right?"

He was pretty sure books counted. It seemed like every other week, the radio had been reporting about her reading this or that.

"Little bit like Westerns, maybe?"

Allie grinned. "I've been going for that lived in library look. I think I've managed to pull it off."

"You know, I don't think I could tell you what a lived in library is supposed to look like? But if we make a pit-stop by there to drop off whatever you don't mind keeping around, that'll be that much less to carry before we get to moving the bike..."

Moving the bike was the part they were both most looking forward to, wasn't it?

"Sounds like a plan. Then we can hit the road."

The ride was the fun part of the whole situation.
