Nikolai's Old Room at the Arms, Tuesday Night

Nikolai hadn't really been planning on staying in Los Angeles when he'd left the island for Thanksgiving, but then he had. Which meant, inevitably, that a heaping crapload of his stuff had been left behind... not the least of which being his bike.

Aaand all of his DVDs. And half of his heroing equipment. His spare helmet. A few books. His weights...

So, this was his last pit-stop on the island, and he'd enlisted Allie's help. After all, even if he'd been out taking hits of energy from criminals out in Balitmore (he hadn't), there wasn't much of a chance that he'd be able to pack up and carry everything back home through a portal on his own.

"I'm thinking," he said thoughtfully, "that maybe I just leave the movies behind. I have most of these back in L.A. too."

"Oh, nono, I think I can keep it in my pants at least until I can find a dark alleyway to take her into," Nick countered, throwing a cheeky smirk over his shoulder. "Just had to let her know she's loved, is all."

She's still a motorbike, Nick.

Allie stuck her tongue out at him. "Way more then I needed to know, Nick."

And Nick was going to just laugh shamelessly as the portal opened nearby.

"This is what happens when you encourage me, Allie," he teased. "Straight to the gutter. You ready to see L.A., or are you going to need a minute to rinse your mind out with bleach?"

Still shaking her head, Allie walked over to the bike. "I'm ready for L.A., the question is, is it ready for me?"

"L.A. doesn't stand a chance," Nick laughed. "And I'm pretty sure in my line of work, that's the whole damn point. I can't wait to introduce you to some of my regular shitheads. I've only been at this a few weeks, and already there are regulars. It's great."

Kept him entertained, anyway.

"Can I make them cry by playing the scary vampire?"

Somewhere out in space, Kaidan just sighed heavily for some unknown reason.

"I make them cry by doing that already," Nick noted, climbing up onto the bike and tossing her a helmet before pulling on his own. "But then, I don't have the teeth. I'm pretty sure they'd piss themselves if I did."

He kind of envied the teeth. Still.

"Hop on and let's get going, then."

Allie pulled on the helmet and settled herself behind Nick on the bike. "The teeth and the sword. You have your image. I have mine."

"Between the two of us, I don't think they ever really know what hit them," Nick decided, smirking as he started the bike. "They don't know if they've been bested by a ninja or a cowboy. Either way, so long as they get the impression that they're lucky we didn't kill their stupid asses, I'm happy."

He'd be twice as happy if they'd take a hint and stay out of gang crime entirely, but he couldn't win 'em all.

"I feel like this is the beginning of a buddy movie," Allie laughed, taking hold of his waist just to be on the safe side.

"I know a guy I could pitch that to," Nick chuckled, and then pulled the bike out of the parking lot, driving straight for the portal. Hell yes, he'd spent money on the direct route. There was no damn way he was going to risk a stopover trip with his bike in tow. A few seconds later, they were through the portal, dropped off in a dark, empty alley.

He didn't want to draw too much attention when he wasn't even in costume, after all.

"If Ratguy can do it, I don't see why the hell we can't."

Allie shook her head. Despite how many portal trips she'd taken, she'd never get completely used to them. Curiously she looked around. "A dark alley. Damn Nick, you always take me to the nicest places."

Nick just laughed as he looked over his shoulder again.

"They're not used to portals around here," he pointed out. "I mean, shit, people still freak the hell out whenever a new hero crawls out of the woodwork. We can make headlines showing up next time, if I'm in costume. How's that sound?"

Gorgon, thinking with portals.

"So far as alleyways in L.A. go, this one's one of the nicer ones." He nodded upward, toward the nearest wall. "My apartment's in that building right there."

"That's okay, I'll pass on the headlines." Low profile was more Allie's style. Jackal was the one who liked showboating.

"Good. We can drop off your stuff and you can show me the town."

Nick smirked as he shut the bike off, grabbing the keys and nodding upwards.

"We don't need to set it out all pretty. Dump it off in the living room, I'll take five to grab my costume, and then I can introduce you to some of my favorite morons around the neighborhood."

Allie climbed off the back of bike and waves an arm towards Nick. "Lead on and I'll follow."

"Great," Nick replied, slipping off the bike and making his way around to the front of the building, sorting through his keys. "You get to see what kind of mess I've been calling home the past few weeks. It's got a real sort of charm to it. A kind of rustic cross between 'unwashed bachelor' and 'Hollywood agent' that really makes me wonder why I don't have company over more often."

It was a mess. A very expensive mess. It could stand to be more expensive, but after as long as he'd spent trying to do business from the island, he had a while yet to go before he could afford that Beemer he wanted.

It might have been a mess but it appealed to Allie's curiosity. She wandered around occasionally picking something up to look at it. Don't mind the nosy vampire. "You could always get a cleaning service."

"Probably should," Nick agreed with a sigh. "At least to take care of the two years of dust I haven't been able to totally clean out of here since I got back. I'd have to stash the costume, but that would only be for a day. Hell, I could leave it in my office at the agency, it's not like anybody ever goes through my desk there."

"I think they'll be too busy trying to keep from being eaten by dust bunnies to worry about how you play dress-up," she teased.

"That... is also a possibility," Nick chuckled, pulling his body armor and duster out of his closet and starting to put it on. "I mean, it isn't even like the general public's gotten a good look at Gorgon, yet. I've been pretty good about staying in the shadows."

"Better for you that way. Stay out of the limelight. I don't get the whole celebrity thing. Who would want that?" Allie asked.

"Literally everybody who pays me to do my job," Nikolai laughed, pulling his goggles out next and giving them a few flashes to make certain the mechanisms were working right. "It's a much longer list than you'd expect, Allie."

"Oh logically I know that. It's just hard for me to picture wanting it," she explained with a shrug. "Call it a leftover effect of growing up in a place where being noticed more often or not wound up with you being dead."

"That... would do it, yes," Nick allowed, putting on his goggles and giving them a few more test-flashes before shrugging his way into his duster and falling into his trademark stance.

"Though, hey, as much of a glory hound as I am, I can see your point. Like I said, there's a reason I'm only representing the celebrities out there. Spotlight's not the place for me."
